Senior Pastor Transition

Bob Fox announced his resignation on Sunday, March 18, after serving as our pastor for 16 years. Bob is now Coordinator for Cooperative Baptist Fellowship of Kentucky and we are excited to see the good work he will do for that organization. Below is information about what is happening during this time of transition between senior pastors.

Interim Pastor - Dr. Terry Lester

September 11: At the special called business meeting on Sunday, September 9, Faith Baptist Church members voted unanimously to invite Dr. Terry Lester to serve as our Interim Pastor beginning in October. His first Sunday with us will be October 14.

August 31: The Administrative Committee is recommending Dr. Terry Lester for interim pastor, beginning October 14, 2018. Flash Williams, moderator, is calling for a special called business meeting of the church on September 9, immediately following worship, for a vote on this recommendation. Information about Dr. Lester is below.

Dr. Terry Lester is a graduate of Georgetown College, The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, and Lexington Theological Seminary. He has been in ministry over 40 years serving churches in Frankfort, Richmond, and London, Kentucky. Most recently he served as Interim Minister at Stanford Christian Church.

Dr. Lester is a former trustee at Georgetown College and Baptist Seminary of Kentucky. He also served as Adjunct Professor of Religion at the University of the Cumberlands. He currently is on the Board of Directors for Baptist Healthcare System and The Friedell Committee for the transformation of the healthcare system in Kentucky. Dr. Lester also works with Baptist Health Lexington as the Faith Community Coordinator.

Dr. Lester and his wife Jan (who is also a Georgetown College graduate) live in Frankfort. They have three adult sons and three grandchildren.

Pastor Search Committee

At a special business meeting on Sunday, June 10, after worship, the congregation elected our Pastor Search Committee. The committee members are Carrie Abner, David Baird, Kathy Fraley, Brad Hadaway, Regan Lookadoo, and Emily Rose. Please pray for the committee as they carry out this important work.

12/17/18 Update

At the December 16 business meeting, the Pastoral Search Committee presented its ad for senior pastor, which will be published in a number of ministerial job search directories this week. The ad was developed based on input provided by the church through the pastor search survey and listening sessions, and the Pastoral Search Committee would like to thank the members and friends of Faith for their engagement and input throughout this process. The full ad is available here.

11/2/18 Update

The Pastor Search Committee would like to inform the church of its recent work. We are currently

a) finalizing the ad;
b) planning a meeting with Pastor Lester to discuss the needs of the church that were uncovered through our listening sessions and survey; and
c) considering a facilitator(s) to help our church explore our needs as well as explore the bigger question, which is what small churches like us do to flourish in the 21st century.

We encourage you to continue praying for us and praying for our church as a whole during this transition time. We will continue to update you as we move through this process. Thank you for your patience and support.

7/5/18 Update : Pastor Search Committee Needs Your Input!

The Pastor Search Committee has met and planning for the senior pastoral search is officially underway, and we want to ensure your voice is included in the process. Building on a series of church-wide discussions held on Wednesday nights this spring, the committee will launch a church-wide survey requesting your input on a range of issues related to our church and Faith's future senior pastor. This anonymous survey, which will be available in Faith File and in hard copy format at the church office, is the first in a series of critical information-gathering activities the Pastor Search Committee will undertake this summer to solicit the entire congregation's input during this important transition. These activities will include:

  • July: Information-gathering survey of Faith members, attendees and Friends of Faith
  • August 19: A church-wide luncheon to discuss the survey findings
  • August 26: Listening sessions with Faith members, attendees and Friends of Faith

These key activities will enable the Pastor Search Committee to develop and finalize a church profile (which candidates use to explore churches during their search) and to develop and distribute an ad for the senior pastor position that reflects the unique needs and vision of our Faith Family. Please watch your weekly Faith File e-newsletter this month for this important survey, and mark your calendars to participate in the August luncheon discussion and listening sessions. And thank you for your participation and support as we search for our new pastor!

Join the Deacons for Daily Times of Communal Prayer

During this important time of transition, the deacons have set aside several times each week for members to gather together and pray in community, both for God's guidance and our willingness to follow where God leads. All those who are interested are invited to gather in the church library at the times listed below. The deacons have arranged daily prayer themes to guide and focus our prayers. The themes are printed below so that the whole church body may pray in unity whether they are able to attend the specific prayer times or not. The deacons encourage all members to post this list in your homes/workplaces as a reminder of our need to pray for our church daily.

Daily Prayer Themes for Faith Baptist Church in Transition

Monday (11:45 a.m.-12:45 p.m.): God, not our will, but yours…

Help us to be alert to your will and desire for our church. Help us avoid trying to exert our own ideas and influence. Help us to be open to your will, to trust in your will, and to follow.

Tuesday (11:45 a.m.-12:45 p.m.): God, grant us your vision…

Grant us insight about who you are calling our church to be and what you are calling our church to do. What do you want us to learn? How do you want us to grow? Where do you want us to serve? Who is in particular need of our special gifts and love?

Wednesday (6-7 p.m.): God, make us spiritually healthy…

Prepare the hearts and minds of the people for your movement. Through your merciful, nurturing love and our faithful discipline, help us to grow in faith, in hope, and in love. Show us our sins. Help us to confess. Help us to repent. And take our broken and contrite souls and fill them with your Spirit and give them the “mind of Christ.”

Wednesday (7-8 p.m.): God, prepare the field for harvest…

Make us sensitive to the needs of a broken world. Alert us to where you are already working in the communities of which we are a part. As faithful branches grafted into and nourished by the Vine, show us where you will bear fruit and how we might be your presence there.

Thursday (11:45 a.m.-12:45 p.m.): God, care for us as we wait and as we work…

Give us wisdom, direction, and comfort in our time of transition. Work in and through the current staff, the pastoral search committee, the admin committee, the deacon body, and all others who will provide leadership to the church as we seek your direction. And help us all to meet the challenges of transition with wisdom, patience, grace, and peace-making.
