Prayers 'N' Squares

Prayers 'N' Squares
It’s not about the quilt; it’s all about the prayers.
Very simply, a prayer quilt is a quilt made with love and tied with prayers by members and friends of Faith Baptist Church.
Prayers & Squares, The Prayer Quilt Ministry, began in 1992 at Hope United Methodist Church in San Diego, California.  Since then the ministry has expanded to include chapters in churches of many different denominations across the world.  Our chapter was started in April, 2006.  We received donations of material and supplies from members of our congregation and the community.
The Prayers & Squares Three Commandments are:
  1. To encourage and involve as many people as possible to participate in the prayer effort, not merely to make and give away quilts.
  2. To pray for those nominated for a quilt.  In order to receive a prayer quilt, the nominee must agree to accept the gift of prayer in the form of a quilt and provide us with their prayer requests.
  3. To never receive payment for a prayer quilt.  It cannot be sold; it is a gift.  Neither the person who requests a quilt nor the person who receives the quilt are obligated to the Prayers 'N' Squares ministry in any way.
Prayer quilts are given to those persons in physical, emotional, or spiritual crisis. We do not make judgments concerning either the validity of a request or whether someone is “deserving. ”  God’s grace is sufficient and available to all.
The idea behind these quilts is simple, yet powerful.  After a quilt is completed, the pastor at the end of our church service dedicates the quilt by saying a prayer and reading the name of the recipient and the specific prayer requests.  The congregation is invited to come forward, tie a knot, and offer a silent prayer.  The quilt is then delivered.
What makes each quilt so special is not the pattern, color, or workmanship, but the fact that a prayer is symbolically tied into each one.  These quilts are a statement of faith, and a testimony to our belief in God and the power of prayer.

Scott County Schools Backpack Program

We help provide food for the backpack program at Scott County Middle School. This program sends backpacks full of nutritious food home with students whose families are food insecure and may not otherwise eat over the weekend when school meals aren't provided. Donations can be put in the red bins in the main hallway. Contact Amanda Langlands for more information.

Wheels of Faith

The Wheels of Faith ministry is dedicated to helping our senior adult members or any member with transportation to doctor's appointments.  Any member needing transportation or other assistance should contact the church office at 502-863-1537.
